Of Cities, Technology and Hope

We continue our series, “Genesis: Starting for Home,” with a continuing look at the horrendous effects of sin on humanity as illustrated by the life and offspring of Cain, Adam and Eve’s firstborn son, who ends up a murderer of his own righteous brother, Abel (Genesis 4:1-16). Genesis 4:17-26 follows Cain and his offspring as they continue in proud rebellion against God, thinking that through the development of technology (livestock production, the arts, and metallurgy) and murderous self-exaltation, they can create a world independent of God and His perfect righteousness.
