Clans, Languages, Lands and Nations

Genesis chapter 10 presents us with what is known as the Table of Nations. Dr. William F. Albright, the renowned biblical archaeologist and linguist, has this to say about Genesis 10: “It stands absolutely alone in ancient literature, without a remote parallel, even among the Greeks,…. The Table of Nations remains an astonishingly accurate document.” So, what could be so interesting, let alone “accurate,” about a list of people with strange names and their offspring? And who were these two guys, Nimrod and Eber, that they should get special attention? We continue our exploration from the creation of the cosmos to the call of that man of faith, Abraham, in our series presented by pastor Don Ebel of Bethel Baptist Church in Portland, Oregon, “Genesis: Starting for Home.”
